Keywords: family practitioners systematic review meta-analysis information management evidence-based medicine

Summary: Since 2000, the Cochrane Metabolic and Endocrine Disorders Review Group as part of the Institute of Family Medicine in Düsseldorf supervises more than 1000 review authors during the elaboration of systematic reviews. The aim of the series „Systematic reviews made easily accessible“ is to provide all German-speaking family practitioners (FPs) with a better understanding of these increasingly important publications. Meta-analysis will be demystified and checked for their practical relevance. In particular we want to enable FPs to critically appraise systematic reviews. Another important concern is to assist in improving personal information management skills. Nowadays, evidence-based health care is unthinkable without fast and efficient integration of relevant, high-quality information in daily practice.
