Summary: Individualized or personalized medicine describes the commitment of family medicine and the generalist respectively. The prerequisites on side of the health care system and the way of family physicians‘ thinking have been hindered by the progressive standardization in medicine over the last 10 to 20 years. These aspects, together with the specific German development give rise to the question: How long will personalized medicine be possible in the demolition process of a structured primary health care system?
