Part 2: The Debate About New Blood

Summary: Problems of recruiting young doctors for a career in family medicine is a matter of lively public and political debate. However, evidence-based studies about development of career decisions hardly play any role in this discussion. These studies show that longitudinal documentation of motivation and decisions (accounting for very different preferences of men and women) are important components for intermediate and longterm governance. The same holds true for measures supporting doctors to establish community practices in areas with decreasing attractivity for renewable generations of physicians. Apparently, the debate in Germany can benefit from international evaluations. It seems essential to build upon and evaluate own supporting concepts to reach this goal.
