Abstract: The majority of terminally ill patients want to stay at home as long as possible and also prefers to die there. Palliative care is an essential part of the family physicians‘ responsibility. This includes effective symptom control of progressive disease during home visits.This article aims to demonstrate that this aim can be largely achieved by utilizing the pharmacological tools that can be found in every family physicians‘ equipment used during home visits. Practical advice for the treatment of the main symptoms of palliative care patients is provided.
