Summary: Family medicine is in a crisis and young professionals are missing. More and more FPs are dissatisfied with their work. Mainly financial reasons but also working conditions are cited as an explanation for this situation. For improvement new forms of health care are promoted. The „traditional family doctor” is considered obsolete. In this paper I argue, that perhaps just the work of the „traditional family doctor” bears some important principles in itself, which may contribute to greater career and life satisfaction.
