Family Medicine Vocational Training in England: Hippokrates Exchange Programgerman translation / full article
Summary: A two-week exchange program gave me the opportunity to gain insight into family practice and family medicine training in England. Family doctors in England work within a much broader medical spectrum compared to Germany because they function as gatekeepers in the medical system. Hence, family medicine training includes many specialties in which trainees rotate. Furthermore, junior doctors benefit from mentoring and an associated teaching program. In family practice, patients can consult not only doctors but also practice nurses for various concerns. Moreover, an evidence-based, patient-friendly online reference guide is well established. These components provide inspiration to improve specialty training and practice organisation in family medicine in Germany.
