Germany’s Drug Commission Cautions Against Cardiac Risks of Domperidone
german translation / full articleDomperidone is a peripheral dopamine antagonist and the second most frequent prokinetic drug precsribed in Germany. After reviewing two new case-control studies from the Netherlands and Canada the European Drug Agency EMA, the British authority and now also Germany´s Drug Commission have recommended special caution when administering domperidone in CVD patients. Moreover the lowest possible dosage should be used and parallel intake of drugs with potential QT-prolongation should strictly be avoided. The French drug bulletin Prescrire suggests to completely abstain from the drug.
