Question

Does massage help against back pain? Are there new findings about the benefit of classical massage in low back pain?

Answer

The evidence for such a benefit is weak. Especially regarding acute low back pain, there exists only one randomized controlled trial with low quality. The evidence for massage in subacute or chronic back pain is slightly better. For this reason, current guidelines recommend massage for back pain in special cases (only).
