Summary: Back pain has many causes, and most cases are due to benign, mostly self-limiting problems. Most problems are considered to be musculoskeletal. However, some serious and life-threatening extravertebral conditions of nearby organs also can present as back pain. It is assumed that extravertebral low back pain is often recognized due to its atypical clinical presentation. The aim of this article is to provide an overview of this conditions and clinical signs pointing towards them.
