Summary: Here we report a worthwhile case of a thyreoiditis de quervain presented as unspecific infection. Only a typical ultrasound image of the thyroid gland lead to the correct diagnosis. Despite the benign course of this disease, treatment with steroids is recommended to quickly improve quality of life. We give some more detailed information about symptoms and diagnostic errors in ambulatory and hospital care.
