Summary: As part of the new version of the German national disease management guideline on diabetic retinopathy the retinal screening interval employing funduscopy was prolonged to 2 years in patients not on higher risk. This is a relevant change for care of diabetic patients by family doctors. It is now essential to integrate this interdisciplinar agreement in daily care and to evaluate it by research.
