Despite No Relevant Differences in Efficacy: 17 % of Danish Family Physicians Prefer Escitalopram Over Citalopram as First Antidepressive Medication

In Denmark, the most expensive SSRI, escitalopram, is prescribed as first choice to one in five patients receiving their first antidepressant of escitalopram, citalopram or sertraline. Family physicians (FPs) made the bulk of all first-time SSRI prescriptions to treatment-naïve patients. Although there is no evidence for differences in efficacy, 17% of Danish FPs prefer escitalopram over citalopram.
